Happy birthday to you - your gifts look lovely - I am especially intrigued by the paper craft one - must look out for it. The book I have just finished and enjoyed is by Jennifer Cody Epstein and called The Painter of Shanghai.

The best book I read this year was The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morten. I loved it and finished it quickly and promptly went out and bought her first book....it's an adult take on The Secret Garden, kinda, which was one of my favorite children's books.

What a fabulous giveaway! LOVING the look of that book... I'm chanting 'must-win-must-win' under my breath, though I don't know how I'd be able to choose a pin cushion - they are all totally gorgeous :)
Okay... down to business... best book... hmm... best craft book: Repeat Patterns by Peter Phillips + Gillian Bunce (about screenprinting) and best novel... Unless by Carol Shields, which is a book about 'goodness' and how rarely it is rewarded.
Have a great day Kate. Kx
Oooo... HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You're loved ones have been treating you to all the good stuff... and rightly so too! Brilliant.
Mmmm... favourite read this year... ??? I'm not sure. The last book that I read that I really loved was 'In Cold Blood'... but I'm not sure if I actually read that this year. Time - I'm not good with that.

Hi Kate , Happy Birthday. Love your gifts , especially the jewellery and the books.
Great word "beautifulish" .We have dull, damp, unbeautifulish weather this weekind.
I can't say I've read a novel this year, unless you count bedtime stories. I spent to much time reading blogs and crocheting.

Happy Birthday! The funniest book I read this year was "Sh*t my dad says". Some places were so funny that I laughed out loud on a bus to the airport! So far my copy has been passed on to six different people.
Happy birthday, my dear Kate! Lots of love, Amanda xxx
Dear Kate, Warmest Birthday wishes, your Nest necklace is so beautiful ... What a wonderful idea to grow "real" roses for the market! Good luck with this.
My favorite book is not new but I always return to it for inspiration and delightful projects, Childhood Treasures by Caroline Zoob.
ps I like the little crochet centre on the sewn pincushions, a good spot to put needles, mine always get mixed up with the pins!
Hippy Hoppy Birthday to you!
I am loving reading (in the bath) a book/mag called DUMBO FEATHER: PASS IT ON - great real people stories. And for very big belly laughs, I have loved 'Fat Forty and Fired' by Nigel Marsh...
My favourite section: where Nigel stopped washing his hair to prove the marketing hype of pharma co's... no-one called him stinkhead...
My first needlework literally happened last night and am excited and pin/needlecushion ready!
Happy, Happy Birthday Kate! Your necklace is gorgeous. The one book I have read this year is The Journey by Billy Graham. It is wonderful. I hope you enjoy the rest of our day.
Hi Kate, many happy returns, hope 10 happy things happen to you today!!! the book I read this year that made the most impact (not the one I most enjoyed) was A book about bipolar disorder called 'Notes from an Exhibition' by Patrick Gale. Enjoy that yummy cake! jennyx

Hope the weather is as lovely and warm as it is over here today.
Love your blog and have a look almost every day.
My favourite book is Man and Boy by Tony Parsons..and not just of the past year!
My biggest inspiration and help has been the book of 250 crochet motifs by Marie Claire!
I spend far too much time reading blogs and not enough reading books, but my fave is 'The Wrong Boy' by Willy Russell.
I realise that the odds of winning 2 giveaways in as many weeks are miniscule, but hey! Got nothing to lose! xx
Shit, forgot to wish you Happy Birthday! Enjoy xx
Hello there! It looks as though you've had a really lovely day! What a great day for a birthday! How of you to be offering such a lovely giveaway prize. My favourite post is 'Getting Sorted' from June 8th. I just adore the early morning sunrise photo with the cows on the hill mixed in with a colourful smattering of family life. Great stuff! What lovely birthday photos - hope you had a super special memory making day. Mmmm...one of the books I realy enjoyed and that was an easy but 'aha' read is One Red Paperclip by Kyle Macdonald. Happy Birthday! you lucky thing! ten is reputed to be the perfect lucky number, maybe that will rub off and it will be me!
my fave book this year "The Other Side of the Bridge" by Mary Lawson. Good story and wonderful observations of the simple things in life and how they look from from an outside view point of calm. Highly recommended, just like your blog. emma
Happy Birthday! Great month to have a birthday I celebrate at the end of the month. I recently read The Help.
Thanks!
Jen G.
I know it would be nepotism [is that the right word?!] but Im going to enter anyway! I am loving all the suggested books and am writing down the names so I too can enjoy reading them. I know you had a wonderful birthday as we had 3 phone calls yesterday!!!!! Believe me every-one she had a great birthday and what is lovely she spreads her joy around so that we too enjoy it as well!!.
One of my favourite books this year was The Winter Garden by Kristen Hannah. It is a light read but a bit different and good reading. Another book is Colm Toibin's Brooklyn, darkish in comparison. I enjoyed the Jennifer Chiaverini Quiling series, especially the one with the runaway slave and the seige of New Orleans, Love Mum
I meant to say it would be nepotism if I won...I just didn't finish my sentence, Love Mum
Love your blog, you are so talented.
My fav read of the year has been 'The opinionated Knitter'. The Elizabeth Zimmermann book. very inspiring for a new knitter like me.
Happy Birthday kate, I am a bit late but could not resist your lovely giveaway.
Every year I re read Perfume - by Patrick Susskund, it is my favourite book and I love it more with every read.

OMG - your birthday necklace is DIVINE!!! I must put it on a wishlist for Chrissy. Link me up lady!
I'm glad you said in the past year, because, quite frankly - I value my sleep far too much to be reading at the moment, but my favourite from last year was certainly "the birth house" Superb read. I think I've already told you that some time ago - did you get yourself a copy?
Have a happy day - and many happy day's being 34...
xx
Happy happy birthday! Have been following your blog for only a couple of weeks but am all taken by your crochet rabbits and the ball wreath (which I'm currently making an interpretation of) and all lovely COLOURS. Thank you for sharing.
Further I was so pleased to see the necklace and oh cant remember the word for that thing for your hair, but anyway, I've been wanting the same for quite some time and think they are so beautiful and clever.
My favourite read at the moment are the books by Japanese Haruki Murakami. Have read three and am continuing with the rest. So just plunge into any you find!
Have a lovely post-birthday week.
Hello and happy birthday! The film was a disappointment, but the book?! The book was too fabulous. Do yourself a favour and beg, borrow (but maybe not steal) Coraline by Neil Gaimen. Not too long, not too cliched, but utterly terrifying - I made my husband come to bed early so I wouldn't be alone when I finished it!
Happy Birthday to you, looks like you have had a lovely time.
A friend gave me a lovely new craft book called "Pieces of Me" by Janelle Wind.
Hello and a very happy belated birthday! My fave read has actually been a series of books - not new but new to me - the Elm Creek Quilt series by Jennifer Chiaverini - brilliant social history plus quilting - have loved every one of them!
My e-mail is alison.gorf@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks
Alison
Happy Belated Birthday -- my brother's birthday was 10/10 also! My favorite book this year was The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen. A bit of whimsy, a bit of magic and a really good story. I love all three of her books -- Garden Spells is my favorite -- and I can't wait for her new book to come out next March.
Happy happy belated birthday! I discovered your blog just recently and have to say I love your taste in colour and admire your crafty ways so much.
My favourite book this year is The Raw Shark Texts by Stephen Hall. The first time I read it, I put it down for a day then picked it up and reread it all over again. Just weird and wonderful and ... oh, just everything really, it's not easily explained but it is very very good. If that makes any sense!

Happy Birthday, Kate. I'm new to your Blog, and your celebration of color is infectious. I hate to admit it, but I'm reading all the Harry Potter books from the beginning to the last one, in anticipation of the movie coming out in November. I'm on book 3. And yes, the books are better than the movies.
I'm not a big reader-more of a browser of books, especially of the crafty kind so your giveaway books would be perfect for me. I am however SLOWLY making my way through "Eliza's Gift" by Rachael Herron. It combines knitting and a sexy cowboy, who couldn't be interested? haha
Usually my most recent book is my favourite. In the case, Barabara Trapador, "Frankie and Stankie', a beautifully written memoir of a South African childhood. Every page worth savouring.Am looking forward to reading more of her. HAPPY BIRTHDAY kate, good to see you celebrating in style.
Hi Kate,
Happy belated Birthday, sorry I'm late! Looks like you've had some lovely goodies for your birthday. Please may I enter your giveaway as I am in love with the Cath K pin cushion. My favourite book so far this year has been Romantic Style by Selina Lake.

Dear Kate,
Happy, happy, happy birthday to you..all of the photos are wonderful and colourful..My last read was probably a book on raising children or similar and since I read here and there craft magazines, books are unfortunately neglected between working until 6PM each day and all the care about my little two girls for which I use all the energy left...Still, it is nice to see what everyone else is reading..Warm hugs from Croatia, Ivana.
Hope you had a good birthday and thank you for sharing your spring colours! I'm afraid I've been crocheting in the evenings rather than reading (or just sleeping!) but my favourite book this year is probably my newest 'Kitchen' by Nigella Lawson. I love cook books and this one is yummy! The marmalade pudding cake is my favourite so far.
Juliet
With two kids the opportunity to read is slim to none. Although, I was lucky to find a book by Francine Rivers called Mother's Hope by Francine Rivers. Also, an eye opener for me...another was For Women Only. Would love to win. Wish me luck! :)
Hi
My favourite book from this year is Gail Caldwell's memoir 'Lets take the Long Way Home' - a memoir of friendship. It is a beautifully eloquent book in which the author chronicles her best friends fight with cancer. Although, it is about death and loss, it describes the type of friendship that most of us wish we had, and the precious things women can give to each other - power, humour, love and self-respect.
Happy belated birthday. Mine was October 6th. I don't have a great memory for the whole year, but 2 books that stand out are A Year of Magical Thinking and the Story of Edgar Sawtelle.
Love the pincushions!
I have been offline for a week and was hoping I didn't miss out.....Jane Eyre for me...and I LOVED IT!!!!
I'm reading Elizabeth Zimmerman's "Knitting without Tears" at the moment, and also dipping into lots of other knitting books, and sitting on top of that pile is a book of short stories with authors such as D.H Lawrence, Thomas Hardy, Charles Dickens. What a wonderful giveaway Kate, so relieved I'm back in time to join in. You look wonderful in your FABULOUS Birthday jewellery, just love that necklace. Happy Birthday Kate! Love Vanessa xxx
I love how your birthday is going on and on. It must be the nicest feeling. I've read some wonderful books this year. One of the ones I've really enjoyed is Colm Toibin's Brooklyn. I started listening to it as the radio book reading and then got so captivated I had to get the book and finish it myself ahead of the radio schedule. Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel was also a wonderful read.
looks like you had a lovely birthday! my favourite read of the past year is Maggie O'Farrell's novel, "The Hand That First Held Mine".-I read it in a day as I just couldn't put it down! lovely giveaway :)
happy belated birthday! I've been trying to think of a book I've read... oh, yes, I finally read Jane Eyre... but mainly I've been reading books like "the princess and the packet of frozen peas" and other picture books!
I have loved reading your blog. I'm new to all this blog stuff, but you've inspired me with your colour and sense of all things "fresh"! My favourite read has had to be The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. A beautifully written book.
Deb W
My favorite read of the past year has been 'Attachment in Psychotherapy' of David Wallin. Normally I love essays but also literature a lot, but the past year has been spent in reading books in relation with psychoanalysis.
Would love to join your give-away too. greetings, Lia Govers
Hi Kate, What an amazingly lovely and generous way of celebrating your birthday! I wish all the generosity will come back to you over the coming year!
Ok, my absolute favourite read of the year has to be Material Obsession Two, by Kathy Doughty and Sarah Fielke. The beautiful quilts and colours make the book un- put-downable!!
Best wishes
Jane
