I love how crochet is really soft sculpture. And that there is almost a crossover with pottery. I made these bowls/vases on the weekend when I felt like a bit of mindless crochet... nothing tricky. The only thing is though, they don't hold water - who'da thunk it?
Lots and lots of love,
Kate xxooxx.

Wow, they're amazing! And I know someone having a big birthday soon!!
ReplyDeletePretty! Love the combo of the silver with the red. They don't hold water, but if you crochet a sort of 'sock' around a real vase it looks the same but you can actually use it as a vase ;)
ReplyDeleteI never thought of crochet bowls and things as sculpture before, but your right, they are!
ReplyDeleteLove them. But I love even more your idea that crochet is like pottery. Seems so obvious now that someone has said it! No wonder I like it so much.
ReplyDeleteYou know the type of bouquets that come ready tied and arranged in a plastic bag of water? Firmly tied with rafia? I'm thinking of that and slotted into the crochet.....

(Obviously wiht or without the bouquet, unless it's a very tiny one!!!)
ReplyDelete(I don't have to really leave my name on my comments I feel you'll know who it is anyway.. ;-) Blogger just doesn't like WP commenters so I've gone to the anonymous side!)

Hey
ReplyDeleteYour blog is mentioned in a danish magazine:-)
You can dry some roses or everlasting flowers, or try to crochet some flowers like Lucy's daffodils http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/crochet-daffodil.html as it is spring down under ;)
ReplyDeleteyes ! yes ! soft sculpture ... it's exactly the wonder power of crochet ... your vessels are beautiful ! and your blog so happy !
ReplyDeleteThere are some utterly amazing crochet patterns out there in the bloggosphere, of any kind of flower you can think of - your vases would make great holders for these - and you'd never have to worry about watering the flowers! :)
