Greedy Garden Colours

I thought I would share some very greedy for colour snippets from the garden. The persimmons have been tremendous this year and so plentiful and we can eat oodles and still have a tree festooned with orange balls. Couldn't resist sneaking in one of the General Galliani roses as well - the most prolific bloomer I have ever come across.

Crocheting Necklaces and Knitting Vests and Drinking Tea

This is my favourite time of the day, big boys to school, little boys to kindergarten and the house in a peaceful slumber of mess. The air is warm with the scent of tea and the dishes on the bench are danced upon by pure golden light that streams through our big windows - the multiples of hand prints on them only serving to increase the angeled haze of light.
I like to blog in this moment, it's kind of like that seam between sleep and wake but instead, between domestic duties and creative output. It's also my time to look at what I made the night before, once the children are in bed. Generally by the time I put my project down, my eyes are too bleary to take in what I've done, so it is left on the couch until morning.
Last night I crocheted some more necklaces and the night before that, I finished Archie's vest. The armholes have deliberately been left without borders as I think it gives it more of a sleeveless sweatshirt look and is a bit cooler for a big boy. The pattern is from Lucinda Guy's amazing book 'And So To Bed' and I increased the stitches to make it more of a size 6-8. I love it because it is wide enough to swing comfortably over flannel pyjamas.
Is anybody else feeling cosy right now amongst the frost? I'm feeling cosy. Lovey day to you all (huh, I meant lovely but now think lovey is nicer).

Another Crochet Necklace!

Another one - I have seen a few necklaces of this style floating around the Internet and decided to do my own interpretation. I will try my very hardest to write up a tutorial on it this week. V. easy!

Crochet Flower Necklace.

Still in recovery mode and all of my words are skittering away from me like the wrong end of a magnet so my explanation for this is: crocheted a few flowers together for fun (cough).

Crochet Corsages.

I have been playing around with the idea of corsages for a while. Here is prototype number 2.

It was freezing this morning. Jonno came home with a lethal piece of ice he found on top of the cows' feed bin. The boys quickly broke it up into sharp, slippery diamonds that the dogs then had to delicately pick their way around for the rest of the morning.

Thank You Roses.

These roses are to say a big thank you for all of your comments. It has been so nice reading them during this particularly sneezey time - as good as vitamin C - emotional orange juice.

A Good Book and Cup of Tea.

So this is what I am armed with to carry me through the day. I have woken this morning to sunlight with its warm rays working through me and feel a bit more cheerful (read that as slightly less dramatic). Just a heavy cold rather than a hell mouth to death's door. A good book has just been opened, Kate Atkinson's 'When Will There Be Good News' and a cup of tea brewing. Although, sadly in a different mug as I dropped my dear yellow one after the photo was taken. These things will be survivened (I just made that up, maybe I should submit it to those test words you have to copy when putting a comment on someones blog). Better go and fill up the hot water bottle and snuggle down on the big blue couch with my book... Have a lovely Sunday.
