Birthday Presents!

I am feeling utterly spoilt today after a wonderful birthday yesterday. Hugo (9) and I were at the local market last week when I spotted a salad sprouting kit which I thought was wonderful. Hugo stowed it away, later explaining it to Jonno. And together, they made one just for me! Archie (12) snuck away an enormous and very much forgotten glass jar I had filled with odds and ends and turned it into the most beautiful terrarium. So I am feeling very fortunate. I'm so glad they already have that ethos we all cherish in blogland, of making something special for someone you love.
So today Hugo and I are going to start sprouting some seeds he bought. Very exciting..... watch this space!
Lots of love,
Kate. xxx

  1. That looks wonderful! It must be nice to see signs of spring again on your side of the world! I just received your newest Camping crochet book and I absolutely LOVE IT. The photography and little sets are so cute and well done. I'm really excited to jump into some of the projects! I am guessing the instructions are in UK crochet terms, right? I just want to double check. :)

    1. Thank you so much Farrah! The instructions are in UK terms - that was hard to get used to as I usually use the US version. Love Kate. x

  3. Happy Birthday for yesterday. What a lovely gift, being able to watch things grow all by themselves with little effort on your part, unlike the pretty crochet things which grow because you and your hooks make them grow! Meanwhile, you and Hugo can look forward to enjoying your salad harvest in the weeks to come - a happy, healthy activity for a mother and son to share.
You are a lucky mum to receive such a thoughtful gift. Enjoy your birthday celebrations :-)

  4. Happy birhtday! How sweet of your boys! I think it's great they like to make gifts themselves instead of buying it!
    Have a nice day, Sigrid

  9. Dear Kate, I am working on the pattern for the caravan from your book. I'm not sure what thickness of cardboard to use. I have Googled the grams you suggested in the book, but didn't find much info. It might be a UK/US difference problem. Do you use cardboard the thickness of illustration board, framing matte board, corrugated box cardboard, or cereal-box cardboard? Thanks, Jana

    1. Hi Jana - It's a tricky one, I've googled it too. I use 1000 micron cardboard so I think the best thing to do would be to go to an office supply or art supply store and ask what the equivalent is. It's strong and 1mm thin - much stronger than a cereal box but much thinner than corrugated box cardboard. It's easy to find but I don't know what they call it in America. I hope this helps a bit.... Love Kate. xx
